Mineral exploration company, Kairos Minerals has wrapped up a 15,000 metre drilling blitz with a bang at its 873,000 ounce Mt York gold project in the Pilbara region of WA. Latest drilling has unveiled new gold lodes in areas with minimal past drilling that have delivered wide and shallow intercepts including 20m at 1.58 grams per tonne gold from just 28m depth.
Mineral exploration company, Kairos Minerals has wrapped up a 15,000 metre drilling blitz with a bang at its 873,000 ounce Mt York gold project in the Pilbara region of WA. Latest drilling has unveiled new gold lodes in areas with minimal past drilling that have delivered wide and shallow intercepts including 20m at 1.58 grams per tonne gold from just 28m depth.
The 20m strike also takes in a higher grade 4m interval going 4.4 g/t gold from 44m.
Other new results include a broad 12m hit at 1.73 g/t gold from 132m, 4m at 3.38 g/t gold from 68m and 4m at 2.51 g/t gold from 96m.
Assays from 28 drill holes remain pending.
Located some 100 kilometres south of Port Hedland, Kairos’ wholly owned Mt York tenure features three separate deposits that make up the existing gold resource base.
The dominant Mount York deposit in the southern part of the tenure boasts 697,000 ounces of contained gold. Further to the north, the Old Faithful and the Iron Stirrup deposits add another 175,000 ounces of the precious yellow metal to the resource base.
Kairos is aiming to grow the ounces at the project with a total of 95 holes for 14,988m of drilling now completed during the latest drilling campaign.
The new intercepts add to other significant hits from recent drilling, including a sensational 32m strike going 3.79 g/t gold from 124m between the historical Main Hill and Breccia Hill pits of the Mt York deposit. The hit also contains higher grade intervals of 16m at 6.62 g/t gold from 132m and 4m grading a cracking 15.7 g/t gold from 144m.
Kairos says the “exceptional” results from the new 20m shallow strike, located at the eastern end of the Breccia Hill pit bodes well for the project’s potential to churn out high-grade ore in the early years of a mining operation.
Kairos Minerals Executive Chairman, Terry Topping said:“These latest results have built on our announcement of September, where we reported some exceptional results from ‘The Gap’ zone between the Main Hill and Breccia Hill pits. The latest results include a thick zone of shallow gold mineralisation at the eastern end of the Breccia Hill pit and some deeper extensions of previously intersected mineralisation, that we were able to target using a specialised track-mounted rig.
We still have assay results pending for 28 holes, which should come through over the coming weeks and into early 2022.”
Kairos previously tabled an exploration target for areas close to the three existing deposits at its Mt York tenure that the now concluded drilling campaign has been testing.
To the north-west of the Mt York deposit, it is working on an exploration target of 53,000 to 95,000 ounces of the precious yellow metal.
At Zakanka, that sits between Mt York and Iron Stirrup, another target ranging between 57,000 and 173,000 ounces of gold has been identified.
A further 100,000 to 167,000 ounce exploration target has also been generated to the south-east of Iron Stirrup.
Other notable intercepts from the drilling campaign so far include 20m at 1.58 g/t gold, 36m at 1.18 g/t gold, 28m at 1.38 g/t gold and 12m at 1.73 g/t gold.
Kairos will likely be sweating on the remaining drill results at Mt York as it looks to beat the door down at the coveted one-million-ounce club.
