Larvotto Resources has come out swinging at its Hillgrove project in NSW, with first pass diamond drilling at the Freehold prospect delivering broad, high-grade antimony-gold zones alongside a surprise tungsten hit. The early numbers confirm continuity along multiple lodes and hint at the rise of a new underground mining hub just 1.2km from the company’s existing processing plant.
Larvotto Resources has rung the till again at its Hillgrove project in NSW, with first pass diamond drilling at the company’s Freehold prospect delivering broad, high-grade antimony-gold zones alongside a surprise tungsten hit, all painting the picture of a new system with some serious legs.
Freehold is rapidly emerging as a genuine system-builder, perched just 1.2 kilometres from Larvotto’s existing Hillgrove plant. With the facility now deep into refurbishment, the company is on the cusp of having a turnkey launchpad for near-term production with Freehold shaping up as a potential mine life extender.
And the backdrop couldn’t be more favourable. With antimony, gold and tungsten all punching into record territory in 2025, Larvotto appears perfectly placed to take advantage of the fever pitch globally around all three minerals.
The standout hits such as 14 metres grading 4.25 grams per tonne (g/t) gold equivalent from 89m depth at Freehold, including a 2.6m running at a scorching 19.09g/t gold equivalent and an equally impressive second hole coming in with 3.5m at 12.46g/t gold equivalent from 136m, speak for themselves.
A third intersect lit up 7m at 5.03g/t gold equivalent from 122m, including a 3.2m section running at 8.38g/t gold equivalent, while further along strike, a fourth hole chimed in with 3.6m at 13.56g/t gold equivalent from 203.5m.
The company says the bigger story is continuity. Freehold’s historically mined lodes appear to keep going – up-dip, down-dip and along strike – and the new holes show multiple parallel and splay structures that were never mined by previous operators.
Sections from the latest drilling reveal tight structural controls, stacked high-grade shoots and broad alteration enveloped that seem to show striking similarities to some of Hillgrove’s most productive zones. With eight levels of old workings already plunging 330 metres beneath Freehold, the prospect of fast-tracking a new underground mining centre is becoming increasingly likely.
Freehold has also thrown up a tungsten wildcard. Grades of 2.23 per cent tungsten across 0.6m width and a 0.5m hit grading 3.43 per cent have put a third high-value metal into the mix. Notably, Hillgrove already has a tungsten circuit sitting onsite.
The steel hardening metal is notoriously hard to source and currently commands some of the healthiest prices in the critical minerals metalsverse. If Freehold and neighbouring prospects continue to deliver tungsten hits, Larvotto may yet find itself with a third revenue stream on its hands alongside gold and antimony, without lifting a finger on plant upgrades.
Drilling is far from over too. Four rigs continue to churn through the metres at Freehold, along with targeted work at the company’s Metz prospect, 2 kilometres due west of the old plant and at its Swamp Creek prospect immediately to the east of Freehold - all part of a coordinated push to expand Hillgrove’s resource base.
At Metz, Larvotto is zeroing in on the point where the Blacklode and Syndicate systems collide - a junction long known for its stacked, high-grade lodes. Back at Freehold, the rotary truth teller will continue to conduct step-out drilling into the Smiths and Freehold East zones, while over at Swamp Creek the first holes are already plunging into a brand-new resistivity anomaly that looks ripe for a discovery.
Construction at Hillgrove is now roaring ahead. At the start of October, Larvotto locked in veteran plant builder MACA-Interquip-Mintrex to spearhead the refurbishment and expansion of the processing facility to a muscular 525,000-tonne-per-annum throughput.
The build is fully funded, courtesy of a US$105 million senior secured bond and a fresh A$60 million equity raise, sealing the A$140 million capital bill. Larvotto expects the plant to be completed and ready to pour first gold and antimony in the second quarter of 2026.
When the refurbished plant kicks into gear, the operation is forecast to churn out approximately 40,500 ounces of gold and 4,878 tonnes of antimony annually for at least eight years, all underpinned by a robust 606,000-ounce reserve grading 6g/t gold equivalent.
An updated definitive study in May, using spot assumptions of US$3500 gold and US$60,000 antimony, pegged Hillgrove’s net present value at a massive A$1.269 billion, delivering A$354 million in annual EBITDA and A$198 million of free cash flow. And that was before gold ripped higher again.
With the yellow metal now blasting past US$4000 an ounce, those earlier spot assumptions already look like a distant memory. Put simply, Hillgrove’s upside has widened dramatically and it’s getting harder by the day to guess just how much bigger the prize has become.
With antimony now firmly on Western critical minerals lists, gold hovering near record highs and tungsten tightening globally, Larvotto finds itself riding a commodity wave with a project whose infrastructure advantage puts it well ahead of most peers.
If the next rounds of assays keep landing like the new numbers out of Freehold, the company may be staring at the revival of Hillgrove as a multi-metal powerhouse for considerably longer than its current forecast 8 year minelife.
