Chief Executive, Malka Foundation
A social worker by profession, Jan began her community-sector career at the then Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and has remained involved in the sector throughout her career. In the late 1980s, she was appointed Lotterywest’s inaugural grants consultant. She subsequently became its inaugural director of community funding and, in 1992, its chief executive.
Jan held the chief executive role until her retirement at the end of 2014, overseeing the distribution of more than $125 million in grants each year. She also held senior positions in the global lottery industry, including president of the Asia Pacific Lottery Association and senior vice president of the World Lottery Association, and served on the boards of a diverse range of community service and arts organisations.
After leaving Lotterywest, Jan served as interim executive director of the West Australian Ballet. She is now chief executive of the Malka Foundation and a trustee of the Feilman Foundation, while continuing to serve on the board of the West Australian Opera. A member of Philanthropy Australia, the national peak body for philanthropy in Australia, since 1992, Jan believes that philanthropy plays a vital role in creating and supporting the many community organisations that contribute to our quality of life.
