Xpedior encourages youth

AS PART of its rapid expansion worldwide, e-business solution provider Xpedior has announced its plans to recruit locally and employ and train globally.

The company is forming relationships with all major WA universities and recently held an informal open night for students and senior lecturers with an interest in computer science, Internet marketing and electronic commerce.

The open night attracted around 100 students who were introduced to the company’s five stage solution process – imagine, define, architect, build and deliver – and its informal and flexible working environment.

Xpedior regional manager (WA) Hamish Jolly said WA’s e-business talent pool was rapidly expanding.

“We have basically brought Silicon Valley to Perth,” Mr Jolly said.

“Since our arrival, nearly all our employees have worked internationally to build and deliver many world-class e-business systems for a number of local and international clients – an experience which has placed them two or three years ahead of the rest of Australia.”

Since opening in Perth in November 1999, Xpedior has doubled its size to fifty employees.

Mr Jolly said he hoped to reach a staff target of eighty by November.

“Many positions will be for experienced and graduate developers, business analysts and web developers,” he said.

Xpedior is currently providing the University of WA with a $12,000 travel and training scholarship.

UWA’s top computer science graduate will travel to Xpedior’s San Francisco branch to receive two weeks training and a six-month work contract leading to full time employment.

A second open night is planned for students in September.

The company is currently establishing an office in Sydney and plans for Melbourne and Hong Kong offices have been earmarked for later this year.
