Specialist intellectual property law firm Wrays has expanded with the acquisition of boutique Perth practice Lord & Co.

Lord’s principal and owner Kelvin Lord, who established the patent and trade mark attorney firm in 1979, will retire following the sale.

Lord’s managing partner Dr Zhi Ling Zeng, who joined the firm three years ago, will join Wrays as a principal.

Wrays chief executive Robert Pierce said his firm was considering opportunities for other Lord & Co staff.

Mr Pierce said Lord & Co had some long-term clients who would benefit from the wider breadth of services his firm offers.

In addition, he said Lord & Co had some exciting overseas relationships that could benefit Wrays.

Wrays chairman Gary Cox said his firm would be able to provide Lord & Co clients with opportunities to grow nationally and globally.

“The clients of Lord & Co will be able to connect with more than 70 Wrays specialists with a diverse range of technical backgrounds in engineering, chemistry, life sciences, commercial agreements, trade marks and dispute resolution,” Mr Cox said.

“We look forward to welcoming them to Wrays.”
