The government expects Peel Business Park to create about 2,000 local jobs once completed.

Wormall Civil has been awarded two contracts totaling $7.3 million for works at Peel Business Park.

Headquartered in the Peel region, Wormall will complete the first major civil works at the LandCorp project, including the earthworks for the first stage of land development and installation of underground power works.

The first 11 lots in the first stage of development are up for purchase, with five lots already under offer.

In a statement, the state government said Wormall was procured using the newly developed Western Australian Industry Participation Strategy, which aims to provide local businesses with reasonable opportunity to access and win state government supply contracts.

The Peel Business Park is located in Nambeelup and is a key part of the state government’s Transform Peel initiative, which aims to create 33,000 new jobs in the region by 2050.

The other two components of the Transform Peel initiative are the Peel Food Zone and the Peel Integrated Water Initiative.

In total, the infrastructure works at Peel Business Park are expected to create more than 300 jobs, and the government said a further 160 permanent operational workforce jobs would be available to the region once the 120-hectare development area was fully operational.

Once fully completed, the Peel Business Park is expected to create about 2,000 local jobs and inject about $1 billion into the state's economy each year.

Lands Minister Ben Wyatt said the awarding of the work to Wormall Civil underlined the government's commitment to utilising local contractors at the project.

"Wormall Civil is playing a pioneering part in the development of the Peel Business Park at Nambeelup, which will kickstart an agribusiness and innovation hub that is expected to deliver major economic opportunities and jobs for the Peel region," Mr Wyatt said.
