World-class sports complex opens

THE Goldfields now has another world-class sport and recreational facility.

The $16.8 million Oasis Recreation Complex in Kalgoorlie-Boulder boasts a 50 metre, 10 lane heated indoor Olympic pool, a three-court stadium and a range of function and meeting rooms, a leisure water section featuring a river ride, water cannon and water slides, two associated outdoor grassed areas capable of holding 15 soccer pitches and outdoor hard surface areas for netball.

Kalgoorlie boasted WA’s first olympic swimming pool back in 1938. At the time it was only the second facility of its kind in Australia.

The WA Government put $3.56 million towards the complex and has spent another $5.5 million on sport and recreation programs in the Goldfields.
