Woodside finds new gas near Pluto

Woodside Petroleum has announced another significant gas find near its Pluto gas field in the Carnarvon Basin.

The Perth-based oil and gas giant announced to the ASX today that its Xeres-1 well in the exploration license WA-34-L had intersected a 51 metre column of gross gas within the Triassic target.

"The well reached a total depth of 3,285 meters," Woodside said.

"The discovery has been confirmed by wireline logging, including the establishment of a gas pressure gradient and the recovery of gas samples to surface."

At 9:46AM (WST) Woodside shares had slipped slightly, dropping 0.6 per cent to trade at $45.42.
