A NETWORKING group for women working in the information technology sector will be launched in March.
Women Working With Technology has been created by the organisers of the Asia Pacific IT&T Awards.
Marketing coordinator Annette Moloney said women were highly
under-represented in the information technology industry, “particularly right here in WA”.
“The business networks are male-dominated and firmly entrenched in WA, so www.t will be a way for women in IT and telecommunications to form their own contacts,” Ms Moloney said.
“It will provide an opportunity for like-minded women to network and forge working relationships through their mutual industry interests.”
She said the group would focus on increasing the numbers of women in the IT industry, encouraging girls to enter IT courses at tertiary level and assisting women looking for a career change to seek information on IT careers.
“It will also help women, in every walk of life, to better understand computers and help them in the transition to a digital environment,” she said.
