THE Note can’t resist indulging in some low-key bragging when the occasion permits; particularly when a story is launched by this newspaper and goes on to make a splash elsewhere. Such was the case for Margaret River Premium Meat Exports and its wine-guzzling Wagyu cattle, which under the stewardship of owner John McLeod have made quite a name for themselves in national and international media. The cattle, if you recall, are fed on local wines to improve the quality of their meat, which is famed for its marbled fat. Since the story first appeared on the Gusto page of this newspaper, John McLeod’s cows have achieved profile across town at The West Australian, and down south at the South West Times; interstate at Melbourne’s Herald Sun and Sydney’s Age newspaper; and internationally in the Hong Kong Standard, the Japan Times and the Sunday Telegraph in London. The story also featured on the ABC’s 7.30 Report and in New York’s Wine Spectator magazine, and was covered in Germany and Spain.
