The University of Western Australia and City of Subiaco have jointly appointed an environment/transport officer to change commuters’ patterns.
New appointee Naomi White has been handed an agenda, to change the fact that most UWA staff and students travel to and from the campus in single occupancy cars, and hence curb the number of cars within the City of Subiaco.
Car-pooling incentives, improved bus services, bus-bicycle combinations and the possibility of a travel pass, based on an idea developed by the University of Washington, are all part of Naomi’s agenda for the coming months.
Ms White has a rural background and has worked in Landcare.
