The WA Farmers Federation did some up-front lobbying of the prime minister over the weekend seeking payment for lost Iraqi wheat debt.
WAFarmers claims the Australian Government owes $138 million to Australian wheat growers for their 1987-90 seasons.
WAFarmers president Trevor De Landgrafft said the debt is a direct result of government policy and not growers’ action.
“Over 650 wheat growers attended two hastily convened meetings last month to tell us how they felt about this and we must listen to those concerns carefully,” he said
The PGA said the calls were misplaced and would ultimately discredit WA’s farmers.
