Western Power says restoration has been delayed due to scheduled maintenance on the back-up line.

Around 38,000 homes in the western suburbs and Fremantle area have been left without power for hours, after a widespread outage hit much of the area this morning.

Western Power said the most heavily affected areas were Palmyra, Bicton, Fremantle, Hilton, Swanbourne, Mosman Park and Cottesloe.

Business News understands power was restored to at least some of those areas at around 12.30pm, after an outage at about 10.30pm.

According to a Western Power statement, the cause of the outage was a fault detected on the main lines supplying power to the distribution network.

It said restoration had been delayed as a result of scheduled maintenance on the back-up line.

“We are currently limited in backfeeding opportunities due to scheduled routine management on a secondary line that feeds that area,” it said.

“We have cancelled this maintenance work and are reinstating the secondary line while we investigate and address the issue on the feeder line that has been impacted.

“Reinstating the line will take up to two hours but crews have already commenced work to reconnect this line.”
