Real estate industry-owned web site, www.propertypage.com, has almost doubled its listings in the past six months to 110,000 active listings.
More than 3,600 real estate offices have committed to propertypage, up from 2,000 agencies six months ago.
National Real Estate Franchise Association chairman and LJ Hooker executive general manger Grahame Cooke said what the site had achieved was provision of an industry-operated site which offered consumers the broadest choice.
“Our strategy with propertypage has been to focus on content rather than traffic,” Mr Cooke said.
“As a non-profit industry-controlled site, we have not been constrained by the need to react to the stockmarket’s short term judgement on performance.
Mr Cooke said it was interesting to note what was happening to the price of Internet stocks.
Announcement-driven share prices and blue sky promises were being replaced by business reality, he said.
