Web guides doctors

PERTH-BASED Optum Group has launched an online medical directory for general practitioners and specialist doctors in WA.

Web-Doctor is a secure service that allows doctors to access information on specialists to ensure patients are referred to the best practitioner.

It enables doctors to search a database of specialists defined by their area of specialty, and can make further searches on the specialist’s preferred interest, language and location.

Traditionally, GPs consulted printed directories that were only updated periodically and did not have the space to record detailed information.

The Web-Doctor database holds extensive information and can be updated instantly.

Optum executive director Rob King said many doctors were impressed with the directory when it was demonstrated at the National General Practitioner Exhibition earlier this year.

Optum Group Limited is the new name for Bestway, the company that recently acquired Optum Group Australia.

The company has been involved with the development of knowledge management solutions since 1986.

“Web-Doctor is the first of a suite of products to be launched for a range of business to doctor, and doctor to consumer applications,” Mr King said.

Mr King said a consumer-based version of Web-Doctor would soon be available.

Optum Group has recently entered a joint venture with Melbourne-based Moneyskills Pty Ltd to develop an online financial empowerment program called Moneyskills.

Internet users can construct their own financial plan and protection strategy to track the performance of investments or establish a savings strategy based on personal goals.

Moneyskills Pty Ltd managing director Ursla Bonzol said Moneyskills also provided budgeting tools.

“We have no affiliations with financial service providers and, importantly, security is first rate,” Ms Bonzol said.

“Being password-generated, it is highly confidential.

“You don’t have to be financially literate to use Moneyskills and the cost is tax deductible.”
