Wavenet signs deal with SingTel

PERTH-based Wavenet International Ltd has signed a distribution agreement with telecommunications giant Singapore Telecom.

The agreement is between Wavenet and SingTel’s wholly owned subsidiary Telecom Equipment Pty Ltd, the equipment supplier for most of SingTel’s products in Singapore.

Under the agreement, SingTel has exclusive distribution rights to Wavenet’s wireless technology in Singapore and non-exclusive rights in Malaysia.

The agreement follows last month’s approval of Wavenet’s wireless modems by SingTel and Kuwait-based Arab Telecom.

Wavenet managing director John Thompson said wireless communication was recognised as an area that would grow rapidly over coming years.

“This agreement will provide Wavenet with the opportunity for wider distribution of its products and a springboard into the Asia-Pacific market,” he said.

SingTel product manager Pan Soon Keong said the company had been “greatly impressed” with the performance of Wavenet’s radio modems.

SingTel provides voice and data services over fixed, wireless and Internet platforms throughout Asia Pacific.

It was voted Best Asian Operator for three consecutive years by readers of Telecom Asia.
