The Perth-based subsidiary of Watpac has won a $38 million contract to provide its services to Silver Lake Resources’ Imperial and Majestic gold deposits south of Kalgoorlie.

Under the contract, Watpac Civil & Mining will stockpile topsoil and clear vegetation to allow operations at the Majestic deposit to begin, with operations at Imperial to follow.

Watpac will also provide drill and blast services over the contract’s two-year term.

“This is another significant mining project the Watpac Civil & Mining business will be delivering in Western Australia and we are proud to be working with Silver Lake as they commence operations at these gold deposits,” Watpac managing director Martin Munro said.

Watpac Civil & Mining general manager Russell Hall said work would begin on site shortly with a 50-strong workforce.

About 6.4 million cubic metres of ore and waste will be mined over the term of the contract.

The Imperial and Majestic deposits form part of Silver Lake’s Mount Monger portfolio.

Silver Lake shares were 4.6 per cent lower to 30.5 cents each, while Watpac shares lost 6.8 per cent to 89 cents each at 10am.
