WBHO Infrastructure has secured two contracts worth a combined $50 million for upgrade works to Geraldton Airport and road maintenance work north-east of Perth.

Under the $21.9 million airport contract, WBHO will provide major airside improvements, including runway extension to 2,400 metres, and expansion and renewal of apron and taxiways.

The works will allow the airport to accommodate larger aircraft such as A330 and B787.

The contract was awarded by the City of Greater Geraldton, with works expected to begin next month and be completed by July 2019.

The total project is valued at $24 million.

WBHO executive general manager western region Will Grobler said it was the fourth major contract with the City in the past six years.

“WBHO is proud to be delivering such an important project for the City of Geraldton, a longstanding and valued client for us. As a local contractor, we know how important these works are, both for the airport’s capability and to local and regional businesses,” he said.

“The Geraldton Airport project, along with the other great projects we have in the city, will also enable WBHO to expand our Midwest team, as well as work with other local businesses to deliver the works.”

Meanwhile, the company has also secured a $28.1 million contract to complete upgrades to a 13 kilometre section of the Great Northern Highway from Muchea to Chittering Roadhouse.

Under the contract, WBHO will build a dual carriageway for the first three kilometres north of the planned NorthLink interchange at Muchea.

The remaining stretch of highway will be constructed as a single carriageway.

The contract will also include some realignment work to intersections at Old Gingin Road, Reserve Road, Wandena Road, Maddern South Road and Sugar Gum Drive.
