WAPC chair to retire

Chairman of the state's peak planning body David Caddy will retire from the role by the end of 2024, after five decades of service in the sector.

Mr Caddy has been chair of the Western Australian Planning Commission for six years, being appointed in 2018.

He will retire from the role at the end of the year, the state government today announced.

Mr Caddy has been in the urban and regional planning industry for 50 years.

Prior to the WAPC, Mr Caddy was the executive chair of TPG + Place Match, one of WA's largest planning consultancy firms.

Planning Minister John Carey said Mr Caddy had overseen significant changes in the state’s planning system.

"I want to acknowledge the tremendous contribution Mr Caddy has made to the Western Australian planning system,” he said.

"I congratulate David on his terrific career and wish him well in his retirement."

As WAPC chair, Mr Caddy presided over major planning applications in the state including the children's hospice, the Fremantle traffic bridge, and the redevelopment of Westfield Booragoon.

A process to appoint Mr Caddy's replacement will start in the coming months, according to the state government.
