WA IS incredibly outward looking, according to a visiting British Minister in Perth recently.
British Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs John Battle said this had been his first visit to Australia and it had opened his eyes to the way we operate.
Previously Mr Battle knew Australia only from a book from his childhood which showed kangaroos, sheep and wheat. He did not realise the depth of the economy.
“I thought it would be more local and inward looking and secondary to the rest of Australia,” Mr Battle told Business News.
Yet what he discovered was a light under a bushel, he said.
Mr Battle said opportunities existed for WA companies in the IT sector, in biotechnology and particularly in the oil and gas sector. He believed a real synergy existed between the oil and gas industries in Australia and the UK.
