WA this week 10 years ago - ARL turns up heat on Reds

WESTERN Australian Super League team the Western Reds was accused by the Australian Rugby League of failing to pay $250,000 in outstanding bills, this week 10 years ago. ARL public affairs manager John Brady claimed the club owed the league for unpaid travel and accommodation costs. The club was also accused of not reimbursing the league for two years of insurance premiums. Reds executive chairman Stephen Edwards defended the accusation, saying the ARL had argued in court that it was a joint venture, and therefore had no legal right to order the Reds to pay more for travel than other clubs. Mr Edwards said its players were fully indemnified under an independent insurance policy in WA.
