WA parliament prorogued

The Western Australian parliament has finished all business until after the election on March 11, after it was prorogued by WA governor Kerry Sanderson.

That means bills not passed by either house must be reintroduced in the next session.

In a statement, Premier Colin Barnett said joint standing committees and legislative assembly committees now ceased to exist.

Legislative Council standing committees remained, however they would not meet or do business.

“This is the first formality in the constitutional and parliamentary process leading to the 40^th general state election on March 11,” Mr Barnett said.

The premier also acknowledged retiring government MPs Kim Hames, John Castrilli, Terry Waldron and Wendy Duncan.
