Western Australia is the only state in the nation expecting better Christmas trading than last year, according to a report released today.
Overall, 34 per cent of WA businesses are expecting trading conditions to be busier this Christmas, the Sensis Business Index Report said.
Those expecting trade to increase predict an average increase of 19 per cent.
Business confidence rose strongly in WA during the last quarter, up 30 per cent in December, well above the national average.
Sensis Business Index report author Christena Singh said Western Australian small businesses were expecting Christmas trading to be busier overall than last year.
“Western Australian small businesses have experienced strong improvements in trading conditions during the most recent quarter,” Ms Singh said.
“These improvements, coupled with positive expectations for Christmas trading, provide a welcome boost to businesses confidence after more than nine months of challenging conditions.”
