Non-farm small businesses in drought affected areas of Western Australia can apply for the state government's Dry Season Assistance grants today.
Assistance of up to $1500 is available to non-farm small businesses affected directly or indirectly by drought conditions, to be used for professional financial advice and the development of strategies for the survival of their business.
Small Business Development Corporation acting managing director Ray Buttsworth said the grants were part of the state government's $9.3 million assistance package for farmers and business owners in WA's drought declared areas.
"The grants are easy to access and quick to process with the average turn-around for approval being within five working days," Mr Buttsworth said.
"Since the program began in October 2007, a range of small businesses including a stockfeed manufacturer, drapery store, school bus operator and mechanic, have accessed the grants," Mr Buttsworth said.
"These businesses have benefited from the program through help in reassessing their costing and pricing practices and rationalising products and stock levels during the quieter trading periods."
Applicants can call the SBDC hotline 131BIZ, or visit to www.sbdc.com.au to complete the one-page application form.
Payment is provided immediately following receipt of the service completion and feedback form.
"The State Government has allocated $200,000 to help non-farm small businesses in drought affected areas and we are keen to see these funds allocated to those businesses," Mr Buttsworth said.
