Western Australia’s agribusiness industry will score a win with a contract to supply pork to Coles stores nationwide to be signed this morning.
The contract will mean Milne Agrigroup, a large local provider, will triple its free range pork production to almost 1200 pigs a week by mid next year.
It currently supplies Coles with 350 pigs each week with produce from four family-owned farms, all in the state’s Great Southern region.
The company says produce from eight further local farms will be needed to boost its supply sufficiently by the start of the contract in 2015.
Pork will be sold under the Coles Finest branding at over 700 stores nationally, and will include easy carve roasts, fillets, sirloin, mince and cutlets.
