Recent grants have included:
• $100,000 from the WA Regional Initiatives Scheme, for the development of both a regional sustainability strategy for the Pilbara region and a methodology for the development of regional sustainability strategies across WA.
Murdoch University is conducting the project on behalf of the Global Centre of Sustainability.
The GCS is a joint initiative by WA tertiary institutions and the CSIRO to create a university/government/industry network to undertake programs and projects to advance the transition to sustainability.
• $500,000 from the Regional Infrastructure Fund, for a proposed Gravity Discovery Centre, adjacent to the Australian International Gravitational Observatory in Gingin.
The GDC will be set up as a self-supporting, non-profit centre integrating art, science, innovation, indigenous culture and the environment.
• $197,537 from the Community Conservation Grants Scheme, to 63 individual and community groups throughout WA.
The grants include $60,000 to the Conservation Council of WA, and $20,000 to the Urban Bushland Council WA.
Applications were assessed by a panel that included representatives from the Department of Conservation and Land Management and the Department of Environmental Protection.
