WA Citizen of the Year Award nominations open

Western Australian organisations, groups and individuals are being encouraged to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of a worthy individual or voluntary service organisation in their community by nominating that person or organisation for a 2005 Western Australian Citizen of the Year Award. The nine Award categories are: Arts, Culture & Entertainment; Community Service; Industry & Commerce; The Professions; Sport; Youth; the Syd Donovan Youth Arts Award; the Governor’s Award for Regional Development; and the Gold Swan Award for an outstanding voluntary service organisation. To qualify for an individual award the nominee must be an Australian citizen residing in Western Australia and his or her achievements in their chosen field of endeavour must have made a significant contribution to the community. The Youth and Syd Donovan Youth Arts Awards recognise the talent and potential of young people aged 18 to 25 years and recipients receive a $2,000 cash prize to assist with their future endeavours. Voluntary service organisations nominated for the Gold Swan Award need to be based in Western Australia and the service they provide must be delivered effectively to improve the lives and opportunities of Western Australians. Following close of nominations on April 28, 2005 a selection committee of respected and knowledgeable Western Australians will be convened for each award. The committees meet independently to discuss and assess each nomination before selecting the recipient. The 2005 presentation will mark the 33rd anniversary of Western Australia’s most prestigious awards and Celebrate WA is planning an inspiring and entertaining evening at the Burswood International Resort Casino Grand Ballroom on Foundation Day, Wednesday June 1. The Governor of Western Australia, Lt General John Sanderson AC will announce and present the nine awards and Premier Geoff Gallop will deliver a Foundation Day address. Nomination forms and further information are available on Celebrate WA’s website Nomination forms can also be collected from Celebrate WA 1st Floor 182 St George’s Terrace, Perth, telephone 9481 8066 or email: Nominations close on Thursday April 28, 2005.
