Vulcan looks to add Finnish nickel

PERTH-BASED Vulcan Resources is hoping to add a nickel project to its copper project in eastern Finland. The company has started a 3,500-metre diamond-drilling program at its Kuhmo nickel project, primarily designed to define sufficient shallow open pittable resources to facilitate mine-scoping studies. This will be achieved via infill and extension drilling at the Hietaharju and Peura-aho deposits, from which Vulcan recently reported excellent shallow hits. It’s expected drilling on a number of targets over the 100-kilometre length of the greenstone belt will be completed in December. Recent drilling results from Vulcan’s Kylyahti copper project indicate a 500,000 tonnes per annum plant, rather than a 300,000tpa plant, as being the best production option. The pre-feasibility study is expected to be completed this month
