A joint venture between Viento Group and indigenous-owned Kimberley Pipelines has been awarded a $9.8 million pipeline construction works contract for the first stage of Fortescue Metals Group’s North Star magnetite project in the Pilbara..

Stage 1 of the North Star project involves the development of a small-scale plant designed to utilise and provide new technology to deliver a magnetic iron concentrate at low operating costs.

Viento executive director John Silverthorne said the contract was the joint venture’s first opportunity to work together since its inception last Monday.

“The pipeline construction works on the North Star magnetite project expands the range of services provided to FMG,” he said.

Viento has provided civil and mining services to FMG at its Anderson Point in Port Hedland, and has ongoing operations at Solomon and Cloudbreak.

In August, FMG awarded Perth-based Intellect Systems, a subsidiary of Resource Development Group, a control and engineering services contract for the first stage of North Star for an indisclosed amount.

Viento shares last traded at 19 cents per share at 2pm.
