Engineering and construction business Valmec has won a $13.3 million contract for work on the first stage of the $1.12 billion NorthLink WA roads project, which is being built by John Holland.
Valmec will provide bulk earthworks and drainage work under the contract, with work to begin immediately.
“This contract award recognises our single source delivery strategy, which through our broadened in-house capabilities, will allow us to deliver greater value to Northlink WA,” Valmec managing director Steve Dropulich said.
“We are delighted to be working with John Holland in delivering this important infrastructure initiative for the local community and look forward to building our relationship with one of Australia’s leading engineering and construction groups.”
Work under the contract is expected to be completed by October next year.
John Holland was awarded a $176 million contract for construction of the first stage of NorthLink in January.
The first stage covers work from Guildford Road to Reid Highway, including construction of flyovers at the intersections of Collier Road, Morley Drive and Benara Road, and upgrading a section of Tonkin Highway north of Guildford Road to turn it into a six-lane freeway.
A joint venture comprising BGC Contracting and Laing O'Rourke was awarded a contract to deliver the second stage of the NorthLink project last month, while a preferred bidder for the third stage is yet to be announced.
Valmec shares were unchanged at 14 cents each at 9:30am.
