UNIVERSITY of Western Australia Office of Industry and Innovation director Andy Sierakowski has been elected chairman of Knowledge Commercialisation Australasia.
KCA is the peak body representing university and related public sector commercialisation entities.
Dr Sierakowski said industry, business, universities and governments needed a coordinated approach if Australia was to fulfil its potential through greater commercialisation of ideas and inventions.
"I am pleased to be taking up the role at a time when our members and the entire sector are making significant advances in commercialising Australia’s intellectual property," he said.
"It is also rewarding to see both the private and public sectors increasingly recognising the value that bodies such as KCA can add to the development of key intellectual resources within Australia.
"It is vital that this recognition can be harnessed and coordinated to ensure significant capital can be brought to the huge pool of ideas and inventions within Australia."
Before joining UWA, Dr Sierakowski held senior executive roles with Kodak and Joyce Corporation.
