Darren Lomman, a mechanical engineering student at the University of Western Australia, was announced 2005 Australian Young Biomedical Engineer of the Year at the inaugural Australian Biomedical Engineering Conference in Adelaide recently. Mr Lomman has designed and built a motorcycle for paraplegic riders and won the award for his innovative contribution to Biomedical Engineering. He was required to orally present a paper at the Australian Biomedical Engineering Conference and be judged on the technical content, presentation style and delivery, originality, relevance to the biomedical engineering community, discussion and ability to answer questions.
