UWA accounting academic wins US grant

Ann Tarca, Accounting and Finance lecturer at the University of Western Australia, headed one of two teams from outside the United States of America to win a US$20,000 research grant from the International Association for Accounting Education and Research (IAAER). The team of Australasian researchers are helping determine the future direction of international accounting standards. The IAAER program supports scholarly research directed at informing the International Accounting Standards Board’s decision process for its project on Reporting Financial Performance. Five research grants of US$20,000 each were awarded. The grant will be used to research alternative formats of companies’ profit and loss accounts, looking first at the accuracy, speed and confidence with which users extract information. They will later extend their research to the reliability of the information and how well it predicts a company’s future performance.
