The United States wheat industry has demanded the White House renew pressure on the Howard Government to dismantle AWB’s monopoly on wheat trading at the forthcoming meeting to review the Australia-US free-trade agreement. Wheat growers’ representatives also stepped up their lobbying for the AWB, the sole marketer of Australian wheat, to be barred from operating offices in the US, where monopolies are illegal.
