US expert joins Perth medtech company

A Perth-based artificial intelligence healthcare company has appointed a US health technology expert to its board.

Jacque Sokolov, a cardiologist, will guide the Australian Securities Exchange-listed Artrya as it expands its business globally.

The company, founded by John Barrington and John Konstantopoulos, has developed technology that improves the diagnosis of coronary artery disease.

Its artificial intelligence makes it possible to accelerate the triage of chest pain patients and prevent unnecessary hospitalisation and prolonged diagnostic testing of patients with non-critical disorders.

The technology can rapidly identify patients at risk of heart attack. Artrya listed on the ASX in a $40 million initial public offering last year, at $1.35 per share.

But the share price dropped when the company's initial attempt to win the US Food and Drug Admnistration's approval for the commercial use of its product failed. It continues to work to address the issues raised.

Dr Sokolov is the chairman and chief executive of SSB Solutions, a US diversified healthcare management, development, and financial services company. 

“Dr Sokolov will be an important contributor as we execute our growth priorities and pursue regulatory clearance," Artrya chair Bernie Ridgeway said.

"As a formally trained academic cardiologist with proven strategic leadership, having served on multiple US public, private and not-for-profit healthcare boards, he brings a unique, dynamic and significant insight."
