UGL wins $200m in work

CIMIC Group’s maintenance and shutdowns business has secured $200 million in contracts with the likes of Rio Tinto, BHP and Roy Hill Holdings.

It brings this year’s total contracts awarded to Sydney-based UGL to about $1.2 billion.

The new work includes a construction contract with Rio Tinto for services at the Mesa J PP2 Rescreening plant in Western Australia, where UGL will complete civil, structural, mechanical, piping electrical, communications and instrumentation work.

UGL expects to employ 160 people to complete the works, which will begin immediately and run through until September next year.

The CIMIC subsidiary also received a contract extension for major shutdown services at Rio’s Gove alumina refinery in the Northern Territory.

Other new contracts include for the installation of a run-of-mine crusher and materials handling circuit at Roy Hill’s iron ore mine site in the Pilbara.

UGL expects to employ about 100 people to complete the works.

Further, the company has been appointed to BHP’s engineering services panel for shutdown and other services across BHP’s iron ore sites, port operations and rail facilities.

UGL managing director Jason Spears said the new work highlighted the company’s capabilities in the mining sector.

CIMIC chief executive Juan Santamaria said UGL had 30 years’ experience in building partnerships with leading mining companies and delivering solid performance of maintenance and shutdown services.

UGL last month received $180 million in work for maintenance and shutdown services with BP, Esso Australia and Santos.

CIMIC shares were down 1.5 per cent at 12:42pm AEST to trade at $22.31.
