Transport focus for Kewdale

THE Kewdale-Hazelmere Integrated Masterplan has been released as a guide to transport and land use planning in the area. The state government says the masterplan area includes Western Australia’s primary intermodal freight facility at Kewdale, the Forrestfield rail staging area and Perth Airport, aiming to accommodate expected increase in freight volume and movements over the next 30 years. The masterplan highlights the importance of this air, road, rail and servicing infrastructure – where the state government has been at odds with Perth Airport’s owner over development on its land. “Key aspects include defining appropriate land use areas and related road/rail infrastructure requirements, so as to maximise the potential for future freight-related industrial growth,” Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said. Detailed engagement with stakeholders would now take place to integrate development on airport land more thoroughly with the surrounding infrastructure and ensure the successful implementation of masterplan recommendations.
