A second Transperth bus has caught fire this week, two days after a bus was engulfed in flames at the Esplanade Busport, covering parts of Perth's CBD in black smoke.

The Public Transport Authority said the bus that caught fire at Whitfords Station today was not part of the same fleet as the gas bus which caught fire on Tuesday, but was an older diesel model.

It follows earlier reports today that fire fighters had escorted a separate Transperth Mercedes-Benz OC-500 gas bus to a stop in Karrinyup after reports a fire had started onboard, however, PTA said the bus only had a problem with its exhaust.

On Tuesday, an OC-500 gas bus went up in flames at the Esplanade Busport, and was the same model as three buses that caught fire in late 2012 and early 2013.

The cause of the Tuesday fire was sparked by a coolant leak, according to PTA spokesman David Hynes.
