THE Australian Securities and Investments Commission has announced that its training register has expanded to include specialist courses in self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) advice.
ASIC has extended its training service to include SMSFs as a sub-category of superannuation, in acknowledgement of the special complexities of this financial product area and the importance of providing increased access to specific courses on it.
A person who advises on SMSFs and holds an Australian financial services licence, or is a representative of a licence holder, must complete an approved Tier 1 course on superannuation to meet PS 146 requirements.
The ASIC training register is located on the ASIC website at www.asic.gov.au/fstraining
Advisers who wish to undertake training in SMSFs should contact their industry association or search the ASIC training register in the coming months to see what courses are available.
