Tourist web snares 300K

THE WA Tourism Commission’s website has attracted more than 300,000 hits since its launch five months ago.

WATC CEO Shane Crockett said this was indicative of the level of interest in WA as a tourist destination from around Australia and the world.

“On average, about 2,500 people visit the site each day,” Mr Crockett said.

“Almost three-quarters are interactive

visitors, meaning they utilise electronic postcards to send greetings to friends, or record their impressions in our guestbook.”

He said 35% of visitors were Australian, 27 per cent were from the US and another 26 per cent from Singa-pore, Japan, Malaysia, the UK and Germany.

The website has already received five Internet awards including Netscape’s Cool Site Award and Best of the Web ’99 Gold Award.
