The state government has announced Tourism WA chairman Peter Prendiville has stepped down after five years in the role.

Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said a successor would be announced in coming weeks.

Mr Prendiville joined the body in September 2011 before becoming chairman in July 2012.

"On behalf of the state government, I thank Peter for his service to the Tourism WA board over the past six years," Mr Papalia said.

“I wish him all the best in his future endeavours as I know he'll continue to be an asset to the tourism industry in WA.

“A suitable replacement will be announced shortly.”
