Tourism WA’s executive director of industry, aviation and markets has stepped up as managing director, more than a year after Brodie Carr’s resignation from the agency's top job.

Carolyn Turnbull, who joined Tourism WA in October 2020 following a nearly two-year stint with Perth Airport as chief aviation development officer, will take over as the agency’s new managing director on Monday.

Ms Turnbull had worked in Singapore’s hotel industry for nearly 15 years prior to joining Perth Airport in 2019.

She replaces Derryn Belford, who has served in acting capacity since Mr Carr’s departure, and will serve a five-year term.

Ms Turnbull brings with her a wealth of tourism and hospitality knowledge to the managing director role,” Tourism Minister David Templeman said.

“I am confident she will support the WA tourism industry and help position the state as a leading destination of choice when we are ready to welcome other markets back to WA.”

Ms Turnbull’s appointment comes after a major overhaul of Tourism WA’s board in June, which include Di Bain’s appointment as chair and former COMO The Treasury general manager Anneke Brown and current Burswood Park Board chair Janelle Marr appointed as commissioners.
