One of three independent directors on the board of grain grower cooperative CBH Group, Samantha Tough, has resigned today after reported divisions.

Ms Tough has been a director for just nine months, having held the role since the resignation of Diane Smith-Gander in February.

It is understood that there has been some disagreement among directors about management of the cooperative as it competes in a deregulated grain industry, and the level of investment outside of Western Australia.

Nine grower members must hold seats on the CBH board, with up to three additional independent directors.

Ms Tough was to have her appointment endorsed by the membership at an upcoming meeting in February, but may have been unable to secure support of a majority of members.

She currently serves as chairman of the REMCo and engineering firm Aerison.

CBH chair Wally Newman said Ms Tough had been an asset to the cooperative.

The resignation comes during a strong harvest season for WA graingrowers, with a total take projected of 12.8 million tonnes.
