THREE WA companies have shared the honours in this year’s Gold Gecko Awards.
The awards, recognising environmental excellence in the mining and energy sector went to Placer (Granny Smith), mineral sands miner Iluka Resources and petroleum company Epic Energy.
Placer won for its commitment to environmental management through the implementation of a sustainable policy. Iluka Resources was recognised for its efforts in the construction and enhancement of the Wonnerup-Tutunup Road in South Capel.
Epic Energy won for its Burrup Pipeline Project and its commitment to local Aboriginal groups.
Epic Energy CEO Jay Holm said the pipeline had been one of the most challenging engineering and construction projects undertaken in Australia.
“The Burrup Peninsula is an ecologically unique area, in addition to having some of the hardest rock in Australia,” Mr Holm said.
Certificates of merit were given to Anaconda Operations for rehabilitation and preservation and to Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation for its recycling program.
