Western Australians Dr Ron Edwards and Professor Fiona Stanley will join 11 other members on the Australian Social Inclusion Board, which will meet today for the first time.

The think tank, which was introduced by the federal governemnt, will aim to tackle social barriers for Australians, including employment, education, community and health issues while providing recommendations on policy to the federal government.

Professor Stanley was named Australian of the Year in 2003, and is the founding director of the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, while Dr Edwards was a Member of the House of Representatives from 1983 to 1993 and is a founding member of the Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation, which supports indigenous youth.

Professor Stanley and Dr Edwards will join eleven others on the board including media personality Eddie McGuire and CEO of the St Vincent de Paul Society National Council Dr John Falzon.
