Leighton Holdings subsidiary Thiess has won a $222 million contract to continue mining operations at Peabody Energy's Wilpinjong coal mine in New South Wales.

The new agreement extends the current contract by 15 months until March 31, 2013.

Thiess managing director David Saxelby said the extension reinforced the positive working relationship between the two companies.

Thiess has been the mining contractor at Wilpinjong since construction in 2006, employing around 300 technical, operational, maintenance and management team members at the mine.
