THE Note has noticed the closing gap in what was once a yawning chasm between the arts and sport. On the appointments on this page you can observe Alcoa Australian chief Alan Cransberg’s role as a board member of the Black Swan Theatre Company. All credit to Black Swan for their recruiting, with Mr Cransberg joining another corporate heavyweight Sam Walsh, who is chairman. The new directorship shows the pulling power of the arts, though Mr Cransberg has not completely forgotten his footy roots. Just to show he’s got all bases covered (the Note apologises for the inept sporting analogy) the Alcoa boss is also a director of the West Coast Eagles. The Note could not resist searching its dusty 1981 collection of Ardmona WAFL Big League Cards to see Mr Cransberg’s name there with fellow Swan Districts team mates Ron Boucher, Gerard Neesham, Phil Narkle, Murray Rance, Peter Satori and coach John Todd. How many of them are on a theatre board?
