GRESHAM Private Equity planned to acquire Perth-based mining services company Scientific Services in mid 2001. The deal would have had Gresham taking an 80 per cent shareholding and managing director John Thompson 20 per cent. Gresham’s offer was gazumped by Swiss company Societe Generale de Surveillance, which offered $56 million, 13 per cent higher than Gresham’s offer.
