An experiment in public sector reform came to an untimely end last week with the resignation of Health Department director general Neale Fong.

Dr Fong has joined a long list of people who have become casualties of the Corruption & Crime Commission’s inquiries into the activities of Western Australia’s best-known lobbyists – former premier Brian Burke and former minister Julian Grill.

As well as damaging his own reputation, Dr Fong’s resignation has damaged that of Health Minister Jim McGinty.

More worrying for WA’s future is the damage this episode may have caused to the prospect of meaningful public sector reform.
