The City of Perth is calling for tenders for a rental housing project aimed to address the shortage of affordable housing in the city centre.
The project will provide 48 one and two bedroom units, to be leased to low and middle-income city workers at 80 per cent of current market rent.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the project demonstrated the Perth City Council's commitment to providing affordable housing.
"As we all know, housing prices in the city centre are high, meaning that living in the city is often beyond the reach of many city workers," Ms Scaffidi said.
"This project will help attract a diverse cross-section of ages and income groups into the city, an important factor for building a stronger sense of community," she said.
Construction on the project is proposed to commence in early July 2011 and finish by August 2012.
